China To Subsidize Energy Saving Lamps

April 30 2009

Peng Sen, deputy director of China's National Development and Reform Commission, disclosed at a recent conference that China will promote the use of energy saving lamps by providing subsidies.

According to Peng, China will subsidize the use of 100 million energy saving lamps this year in addition to the promotion of other energy efficiency products such as air-conditioners, refrigerators, and washing machines.

It is reported that NDRC will work with the departments concerned to speed up the phasing out of outdated production capacity and advance the upgrade of industry structure by improving the threshold for energy saving programs, and arranging special funds to support key energy conservation projects.  Pu Changcheng, the deputy director of China's General Administration of Quality Supervision, Inspection and Quarantine, stated that, so far, China has released 22 national standards limiting high energy consumption projects, 32 standards on performance efficiency, and six national standards on enterprise energy measuring device management, and all this has serves as the foundations for the country's energy conservation and emission control work.
